El climax del fragmento está en los versos del acto I, III, 167-68:
OTELLO : E tu m'amavi per le mie sventure
Ed io t'amavo per la tua pietà.
OTHELLO: She lov'd me for the dangers I had pass'd.
And I lov'd her that she did pity them.
Las primeras palabras que pronuncia Desdémona las toma prestadas de la entrada de Otello al llegar a Chipre ("Mió superbo guerrier"), "o My fair warier" (Acto II, I, 182). Boito vuelve a esta escena con "If it were now to die" (Acto II, I, 191-200), acabando el acto con el "beso":
OTELLO: Tale è il gaudio dell'anima che temo,
Temo que piu non mi sarà concesso
Quest'attimo divino
Nell'ignoto avvenir del mio destino.
OTHELLO: My soul hath her content so absolute,
that no another comfort, like to this
